National key scenic spot, national AAAA level tourist area
North Mount Heng and China's East Mount Tai, West Mount Hua, South Mount Heng, Central Mount Song are called five mountains and famous all over the world.
According to historical records, more than 4,000 years ago, Emperor Shun patrolled in the north, saw the grotesque and towering Mount Heng, and named it North Mount Heng, the lord of numerous mountains in the North. It includes Shanxi in the south, Hebei and Liaoning in the east, Yanmen in the west, Daijun in the north. A hundred and eight peaks stretch for hundreds of miles, undulating and lying across the North Great Wall. The main peak is located in the south of Hunyuan County, Shanxi Province, with an elevation of 2016.l meters. It is known as the "the north pillar" and "the famous mountain in the north frontier". It is a famous Taoist holy land and tourist attraction in China.
There are more than 30 ancient buildings in the core scenic spot, so there are "three temples, four ancestral halls, nine pavilions, seven palaces, eight holes, fifteen monasteries". Many artfully constructed temples, pavilions face the valley in the back. The majestic Hengzong Temple faces south, and the high cliffs are towering; the North Mount Palace, hidden in the secluded area, is embedded in the grotto; the Kuixing Pavilion points to the Big Dipper, the independent peaks are dangerous; the Sanqing Hall on the brink of an abyss has a cleverly constructed precipice. Especially the ancient architecture of the Northern Wei Dynasty, the Hanging Temple is even more amazing and breath-taking. The ancient poems say "the flying pavilions on the cliff, the covering white clouds."。
In the county, there are Yongan Temple and mural paintings of the Yuan Dynasty, brick towers of Yuanjue Temple of the Jin Dynasty, Liyumei Cemetery of the Qing Dynasty, the Confucian Temple, the Ma Courtyard, the Guzhou Temple, and the North Mount Palace. There are also historical and cultural monuments such as Thousand Buddha Mountain, Shenxi Wetland, Shenxi Lvlv shrine, Yunfeng Temple, Liyu Painted Pottery Cultural Site, Bronze Ruins, Jingzhuang Dayun Temple.
Hanging Temple is located on the west cliff of Jinlong Gorge in Mount Heng. Since ancient times, it has been listed as the first spectacle of Mount Heng.
The Hanging Temple was built in the late Northern Wei Dynasty (about 471-523 AD) and has a history of 1,500 years. It faces east, like a delicate, chic jade carving hanging in the middle of a huge screen.
The gate of Hanging Temple faces south, and there are 40 pavilions in the temple. There is a three-story mountaintop in the north and south, and the dangerous building rises up, standing against each other, from low to high with three layers. The six temple halls cross each other and the flying plank roads are connected by wooden stairs, twists and turns, staggering, high and low, intersecting with each other, and the layout is wonderful. The whole temple is intricate and not chaotic, cross-cutting and rigorous, seemingly imaginary and real, seemingly dangerous and safe, real and skillful, dangerous and fascinating, a kind of strange danger that cannot be realized in other temples in China grasps the psychology of tourists tightly. There are many statues in the Hanging Temple, and there are 80 bronze castings, iron castings, clay sculptures and stone statues. The statues of Sakyamuni and the goddess in Leiyin Temple are chubby in figure and touching in manner. In the Three Religions Temple on the highest level of the Hanging Temple, the statues of Sakyamuni, Laozi and Confucius live together in one room. It is rare.
Although the Hanging Temple is in the deep valley, it has the Mount Heng Reservoir. The Mount Heng Reservoir has a water storage capacity of 13 million cubic meters and irrigates more than 50,000 acres of fertile land. In the summer, the green hills on both sides stand sideways, and the dark green mountains reflect in the reservoir. The water is clear and sparkling. The man-made waterfalls are flying in the cliffs, and the mountains and rivers in the canyon are in harmony, adding to the wonders of the Hanging Temple.
