Exploring New Paths The Shanxi landscape resounds with the transformation chapter

Shanxi is one of the cradles of Chinese civilization. More than two thousand years ago, Zuozhuan vividly depicted Shanxi's advantageous geographical location, embraced by the Yellow River and Taihang Mountains, as "a land enclosed by mountains and rivers". "Articles are written to suit the times, and songs are composed for the occasion." The work "Enclosed by Mountains and Rivers" sings of a new era, encouraging and inspiring Shanxi's transformation and development,凝聚力量, and paying tribute to the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

The birth of "Enclosed by Mountains and Rivers"

2020 Year, in accordance with the decisions and deployments of the Shanxi Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government, the former Shanxi Arts Vocational College, the former Shanxi Drama Vocational College, the Shanxi Jin Opera Theatre, and the Shanxi Peking Opera Theatre were reformed and reorganized into the new Shanxi Arts Vocational College, implementing "integration of production and education, and integration of schools and troupes", integrating resources, complementing each other's strengths, and forming a "one-stop" development pattern of teaching, research, creation, and social practice.

After the restructuring, the college launched the music "Enclosed by Mountains and Rivers," which was rated as a key supported work of the "Centennial Hundred Projects" by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. In 2021, under the guidance of the Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, Shanxi Arts Vocational College and its affiliated Shanxi Peking Opera Theatre carefully created the Peking Opera song and dance drama "Enclosed by Mountains and Rivers." This work incorporates Shanxi's characteristic musical elements, and with the clear concept of "three major sections", sincere and firm cultural confidence, upward and onward spirit of the times, and the perspective of time and space that carries on the legacy, vividly depicts the beautiful scenery of Shanxi, vigorously promotes Shanxi's excellent traditional culture, and enthusiastically sings the enterprising spirit of Shanxi's new era transformation and development.

"Traveling in Shanxi is like reading history"

Mr. Yu Qiuyu mentioned in "Apology to Shanxi" that "When I traveled in Shanxi, I always had a feeling of shame... My misunderstanding of Shanxi was entirely due to my ignorance of history." The 5,000-year imprint of Chinese civilization on this ancient and magical land can be checked one by one. Shanxi's profound history is gradually being understood and admired by the world.

Only Shanxi can bring together the three major symbols of China: the Yellow River, the Taihang Mountains, and the Great Wall. Enclosed by Mountains and Rivers "Shanxi's The Soul of the Yellow River, the Beauty of Taihang Mountains, and the Great Wall Exhibition " are described in a smooth and flowing manner. "The sacred water of the Yellow River descends from heaven; the earliest China originated in our Hedong region." In Shanxi, the province through which it flows for the longest distance, the Yellow River nourishes the descendants of the dragon with its sacred "milk." According to archaeological research, the Taosi site group in Linfen may be the earliest China – "the capital of the land, the country of the Central Plains." "The Taihang Mountains, the backbone of the world, the red spirit forever carried forward." Learning from a century of Party history, inheriting the red genes, and drawing wisdom and strength for forging ahead. On the majestic Taihang Mountains, eternal monuments tell the revolutionary epic; the Taihang Mountains, dyed red for the cause of national liberation, are truly "beautiful." "Inside and outside the Great Wall, ethnic groups merge, the giant dragon soars even stronger." The Great Wall is a bond, a coordinate, witnessing the integration and convergence of the Chinese nation; the great Chinese nation, like a great wall dragon, is indomitable and strides forward powerfully.

" Let's tell the stories of Shanxi again, heroes generation after generation, sigh with emotion." Accompanied by a long-lasting melody, Nüwa creating humans and patching the sky, Shennong tasting herbs, Hou Ji farming, Lei Zu raising silkworms, Cangjie creating characters, Yao's capital Pingyang, Shun farming Lishan, Yu digging Longmen—all appear one by one; these ancestors laid the foundation for Chinese civilization; the outstanding figures of Shanxi are as numerous as stars, as vast as the Milky Way, they walk forward with firm steps, telling the thrilling stories of Shanxi.

"Poetry and the distance" enriching Shanxi

Yungang Grottoes, a World Cultural Heritage site and Datong, the ancient capital where it is located, are global; the world will also surely achieve "Great Harmony." Under the leadership of the Party, the Chinese nation, which has suffered hardships in modern times, has ushered in the great leap from standing up, getting rich, to becoming strong, and has also contributed the China solution to building a community with a shared future for mankind, therefore "World Harmony shines with brilliant light" 。

Pingyao Ancient City, a World Cultural Heritage site has witnessed the rise and fall of dynasties since the Western Zhou Dynasty, the legendary story of Shanxi merchants who "stretched across Eurasia for 9,000 miles and dominated the business world for 500 years," and the once bustling Rishengchang Bank becoming a famous tourist attraction with constant streams of visitors. Under the leadership of the Party, ancient Pingyao… Shanxi… China is full of vigor and growing prosperity, so "Prosperity returns to Rishengchang" 。

Mount Wutai, a World Cultural Heritage site is a cool and refreshing scenic area; once here, one naturally calms down, becoming tranquil and wise. Under the leadership of the Party, Shanxi is vigorously promoting "Healthy Shanxi, Summer Shanxi." With its beautiful environment and pleasant climate, Mount Wutai is becoming a healthy resort for self-cultivation, hence "Cool and refreshing scenery, wisdom that lasts" 。

Coming to Shanxi, one must "travel," but also "appreciate." Under the great importance and full promotion of the Shanxi Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government, the seventh major tea system in China— Shanxi medicinal tea and "Three Treasures of Shanxi," following Fen wine and aged vinegar, are becoming nationally renowned Shanxi Brands. When visiting Shanxi, one must carefully appreciate the courtyards of Shanxi merchants, savor Shanxi cuisine, appreciate the skills of Shanxi, appreciate the four major types of Bangzi opera, and marvel at the charm of thousands of years. Shanxi's profoundness lies not only in its scenery, landscapes, cultural relics… but also in its historical traditions, ideas, and moral norms. "The Story of the West Chamber," "Romance of the Three Kingdoms," "The Orphan of Zhao," "The Yang Family Generals," "The Ballad of Yanqiu"… Excellent traditional Chinese culture is the cultural root of the Chinese nation, and the ideas, humanistic spirit, and moral norms it contains are the core of the thoughts and spirit of the Chinese people, possessing a timeless charm that transcends time and space, "Let tourism become a process for people to understand Chinese culture and enhance cultural confidence" 。

Seize the day and forge ahead

The mighty Yellow River, the majestic Taihang Mountains, and the Great Wall stretching endlessly. In 2020, at a critical moment in securing a decisive victory in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and winning the battle against poverty, General Secretary Xi Jinping visited Shanxi for inspection and research after a three-year interval. He said with deep emotion: “Since I started working in the central government, I have always been concerned about Shanxi.” He encouraged Shanxi to make further progress from its current achievements, take bigger strides in high-quality transformation and development, strive to blaze a new path for transformation and development, and seize the opportunity to write a new chapter in Shanxi's practice of socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era.

The journey is long and arduous, but we must strive forward. “Today, the people of Shanxi are more vigorous, and the people of Sanjin are more energetic.” 。 Mountains and rivers are the people, and the people are the mountains and rivers.
