The summer travel season concluded successfully, with Hunyuan County standing out in the national tourism market with impressive results. With its unique charm of "culture and tourism + coolness," Hunyuan's cultural tourism became a "dark horse" in this summer's cultural tourism market.
The summer hit of the domestic animation "Lang Lang Mountain Little Monster" injected strong momentum into the development of Hunyuan's cultural tourism. As one of the filming locations, Hunyuan's Yong'an Temple saw a surge in popularity, with an average daily reception of 2,400 visitors and daily ticket revenue of 23,000 yuan, and peak days exceeding 3,200 visitors. According to the "Ctrip Summer Report," "checking in at film and TV shooting locations" became a new trend in summer cultural tourism consumption. "Lang Lang Mountain Little Monster" boosted the popularity of ancient architectural sites like Yong'an Temple, with related attraction searches soaring by 380%. The Datong tourism market also significantly heated up, ranking among the "Top 3 cities for summer growth," with scenic spot ticket sales up 43% year-on-year and tourism orders increasing over 40%, placing it among the fastest-growing summer tourism cities nationwide. As a core part of Datong's cultural tourism, Hunyuan played a key role in this tourism boom, becoming an important force driving the substantial rise in its cultural tourism data.
Currently, the "cultural and museum fever" continues to rise, with more and more tourists preferring "cultural tours." As a provincial-level historic and cultural city, Hunyuan County, with its rich cultural tourism resources and distinctive experiences, attracted a large number of visitors this summer. The county has 488 immovable cultural relics, including 7 national key cultural relic protection units, and 68 intangible cultural heritage items. The rich ancient architectural resources laid a solid foundation for the summer cultural tourism boom, with Yong'an Temple being a standout example. Previously gaining popularity as a filming location for the game "Black Myth: Wukong," it has once again "gone viral" thanks to "Lang Lang Mountain Little Monster," becoming a popular "check-in spot" promoted on platforms like Xiaohongshu.
During the summer, Hengshan Mountain, one of China's Five Great Mountains, was crowded with visitors; the Hanging Temple was a popular spot on the summer "must-visit list," with daily visitor numbers continuously rising. Within Hunyuan Ancient City, the Yuanjue Temple ancient pagoda, the Confucian Temple ancient buildings, the Hunyuan Prefecture Office courtyard, as well as more than 60 Ming and Qing dynasty mansions such as the Majiayuan and Lijiafu courtyards, also welcomed many visitors during the summer. The ancient city also offers local delicacies like Hunyuan cold noodles and lotus beans, allowing tourists to enjoy local flavors while exploring ancient architecture. This not only enriches the travel experience but also promotes the development of the regional cultural tourism consumption market, making "traveling to a city for an animation, falling in love with a city for an ancient building" a vivid portrayal of Hunyuan tourism this summer.
The booming cultural tourism market has not only accelerated Hunyuan's tourism industry but also brought tangible benefits to people's livelihoods. Since the summer, places like Lotus Mountain, Longpengyu, and Erling Village have attracted large numbers of tourists, with daily visitor numbers at rural attractions doubling compared to usual. Visitors either hike to enjoy the scenery, camp and picnic, or experience rural life. The popularity of rural tourism has comprehensively benefited the surrounding villages. Many villagers seized the summer tourism opportunity by opening farm restaurants, running specialty homestays, creating camping sites, or selling mountain products, significantly increasing their income. Many villagers participate in the tourism industry chain by operating farm stays and homestays, achieving "employment and entrepreneurship at their doorstep." The rise of rural tourism has also boosted local agricultural product sales, promoting deep integration of agriculture and tourism, making Hunyuan's "tourism meal" increasingly prosperous.
In addition, to provide visitors with a higher quality travel experience, Hunyuan County held a variety of colorful cultural tourism activities this summer. These included the "Rising Tide in the Countryside, Art Shines on Hengyue" 2025 Hunyuan Tourism and Culture Season event, the "Star of Mass Culture Shines on Hunyuan" event, the online and offline "Northern Mountain Star Avenue" activities, the first "Storytelling" competition "Inheriting Intangible Cultural Heritage and Dancing in Hunyuan," the "Light and Shadow for the People" film exhibition, and summer evening parties. These activities comprehensively and multi-dimensionally showcased the profound connotation of "Eternal Northern Mountain, Honest Hunyuan," deeply explored and vividly displayed local characteristic culture, promoted cultural and tourism integration through events, created regional cultural IP, boosted rural tourism and agricultural product sales, forming a new model of "culture—economy—society" coordinated development. They enriched the spiritual and cultural life of tourists and residents, becoming a vivid practice of cultural and tourism integration. (Zhang Xiaotian)
